We are delighted to have been awarded a Cleaner, Greener, Safer grant from Southwark Council. This funding will be the starting point for the next phase of our work in the Dream Garden pocket park. Over the next few months, we will be diversifying the planting in the space to promote greater biodiversity and make it an even better place to explore urban wildlife as well as simply relax. The small, but significant, changes we will be making were developed during our ongoing programme of workshops and activities throughout 2019 and are in response to feedback from the many people we spoke to.
The main changes will be that we will be creating a small wildflower meadow on the Fair Street side of the pocket park – this will provide a source of food for insects as well as adding a splash of vibrant colour!
We will be planting a pollution barrier on the perimeter that borders Tanner Street. This will be comprised of plants selected for their ability to absorb air pollution and trap airborne particulates.
We will be expanding the fern garden space that surrounds the bug hotel and adding to the woodland planting that characterises this part of the park.
The large planter will be a community herb garden bursting with flavours!
We will also be working with local children and and an artist to create a new noticeboard.
